Two Generations, One Vision: How Electroalfa International is Reinventing Industry in Botoșani

Data publicării: 16-12-2025

Few stories in the Romanian industry combine the entrepreneurial spirit of the '90s with the technology and ambition of the current generation so naturally. Electroalfa International, a company born in a workshop in Botoșani, has gradually transformed into a company that produces equipment and solutions for energy infrastructure and exports to countries across all continents of the world.

For Gheorghe Ciubotaru, the founder and president of the company, the beginnings were not about elaborate plans or invested capital. They were about the ambition to demonstrate that true quality can be built in Romania as well. "We started with zero capital and a lot of seriousness. That is what has kept us standing for over 34 years," says the founder. The first electrical distribution boxes were made manually, with care and discipline, and this rigor gradually became the company's DNA.

In the 2000s, the company entered a stage of industrial maturation: modern factories, European standards, certifications, participation in international tenders, and an increasingly developed team. Everything is built step by step in Botoșani, a city where no one anticipated that one of the most solid Romanian industrial companies would be formed. "Botoșani never limited us. We found serious people here, eager to work, and that was our real capital," states Gheorghe Ciubotaru.

Smart solutions and new markets

The company's management now includes George Ciubotaru, the Vice President of Electroalfa International and the person who completed its vision. The father brings industrial rigor and the experience of over three decades; the son brings technological speed, digitalization, and orientation towards the markets of the future. The two function as a team—two perspectives, the same strategic direction.

Under their coordination, Electroalfa International is gradually moving into the area of smart solutions: SF₆-free equipment, modular solutions, advanced digitalization, proprietary industrial software, investments in modern transformers, and openness to emerging markets. "The energy transition is achieved with new technologies. The future is electric, digital, and sustainable, and we are among the companies building this future in Romania," says George Ciubotaru.

A central element in this evolution is the SGB-Alfa factory, developed in Botoșani in partnership with the German group SGB-SMIT, one of the largest transformer manufacturers in Europe. The unit is already completed and operational, producing power transformers between 50 and 1000 kVA for European and international markets, adding an essential link to the group's offering chain. "Through the new factory, we have added an extra link in the modern energy chain, here in Botoșani," explains George Ciubotaru.

In parallel, the company is undergoing an extensive digitalization process. Production flows are monitored in real-time, lines are modernized, and internal systems allow for high traceability and rigorous quality control. Photovoltaic solutions are integrated for internal consumption, and product ranges adapted to future European regulations are being developed. Electroalfa International is also exploring the field of battery energy storage, a segment where accumulated technical expertise opens new directions for growth.

The same dual perspective—tradition and innovation—is found in the international expansion plans. Some of Electroalfa International's solutions are already implemented on all continents, and the company aims to consolidate its presence in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, markets undergoing accelerated energy reconstruction. Opportunities are also being evaluated in the Caucasus, the Middle East, and North Africa, regions with major projects in electrical infrastructure.

"I want Electroalfa International to be among the companies that modernize the energy infrastructure in Romania and internationally. We have the people, we have the know-how, we have the technology, and we continue the path we started," says Gheorghe Ciubotaru, convinced that the future of the Romanian industry lies in expansion, not retreat.

The story of Electroalfa International thus becomes a journey of collaboration between two generations. A company where they work side by side for the same vision: built through rigor and patience, and accelerated through digitalization and international openness. Botoșani has thus become the starting point for one of the most coherent reinventions of the Romanian industry.
